The Beginning of Something Ribbiting!

Howdy! As many of you may or may not know, I have been developing a board game for a little over four months. It's called Husks it's a strategic hop and collect card game with a zombie apocalypse theme! It has been such a wild ride to go from brainstorming a game's mechanics and aesthetic to having it delivered to your house in the box you designed with the cards you drew. AH! It's also been overwhelming at times since I have had to balance working on the game with school. Anyhow here's what I did this term for my game (!!) Husks!

Building off my original brainstorm in February:

I made 3 prototypes in 2 months each more and more refined through playtesting. In early April, when the term started, I honed in on the exact mechanics of the game. Following that I felt confident enough to begin to make the art for the games:

It had a name, some art, and alright mechanics so what was left to do in early March? Playtest, playtest, and some more playtesting. I playtested maybe 50 times, which is quite low, but I did this through my inner circle of peers, friends, and family. I refined the game again and finish the art and backgrounds for the cards. At this point, I felt comfortable to order my cards from Game Crafter to see them in in my hands. When they got to me, I cried a bit. I've always had a problem finishing things and always left things I was passionate about half done, but seeing the cards that I drew in my hands. Something shifted inside me and I had the initiative to, at last, finish something I started. I made the box for the game I started to advertise on Twitter and Instagram:

I also went to Good Games to talk to people there and get insight into what they like to see in games. I also now have the bones of the kickstarter for my game, soon it will go up and people will be able to pay for the game!!

I am so excited and overjoyed for this to happen. I couldn't have done this without the help of my teacher Aaron so a HUGE thank you to him! Hope you can donate to the kickstarter and help me fund future projects, till next time!
