Giraffing Me Crazy!

Hello and welcome to the new school year and the first STEAM class of the year, Population! In this class, we learned about taxonomy, set theory, quadrilaterals, and biology. To prepare for this class over the summer we read In the Shadow of Man by Jane Goodall. I really enjoyed the book and learning about the chimpanzee's behaviors! We also went on our first FE (Feild Experience) to the Lincoln Park Zoo where we chose the animal we would study for our AP (action project).

As our first AP in our class, we are making an art project for a children's zoo to explore the taxonomic layers of our choice of animal. I chose the Rothschild's Giraffe because I think giraffes are really rad. Below you will read about the Rothschild's Giraffe, its habitat, taxonomic categories, and the morphological traits that show of the taxonomic categories. We are doing this not only to understand taxonomy as a scientific method of categorization but to see how complex and overlapping the characteristic are between organisms in different categories!

To conclude I had a lot of fun with this project! I love researching and investigating animals. Though if I were to do this project again I would have focused more on the Rothschild's giraffe, since at first, I had the idea to research the green tree frog. Anyhow, I had fun learning more about the Rothschild's giraffe and giraffe's in general. They're really interesting animals, I hope you enjoyed this project!
