I'll Get A Rise Out Of You!
Hello and welcome to the second AP (action project) for my class, Food. In this class, we have been studying the past, present, and future of food. In this unit, (Cooking), we have been learning about acid-base reactions, pH, and the science of bread and its leavening agents. We learned that bread was most likely first made in Eygpt accidentally left alone to rise with natural yeast, and has now been made more efficient with chemical leavening agents. For math, we learned how to do logarithms, specifically how to calculate pH and H+, cross multiplication, the laws of exponents and logarithms, and conversions between the metric and US systems.
We did this AP to learn the science and effects of leavening agents as well as to learn more about the science of cooking in general. We wanted to know the differences between biological and chemical leavening agents and different recipes for similar loaves of bread.
Enjoy!
