Covid-19 Has Shown Us That Cruise Ships Should Stay Docked
Hello!
Oh, hi!
Do you have time for an interview?
Sure I have time!
May I ask about your recent humanities course at GCE?
Of course! I've been taking a class called Journalism. Where we have been studying what journalism means and has meant. We went over the acclaimed 5 W's and 1 H (Who, What, When, Where, Why, How). We've also learned how to interview people in the most efficient and professional way, and how to write articles using the inverted pyramid and the new journalism values. We have been diligently reading Our America by LeAlan Jones and Lloyd Newman, and guess what! We had a virtual FE (field experience) where we met and talked with LeAlan Jones himself!
No way!
Right!? It was so fascinating and inspiring to talk to him. We also had virtual FE's to see live professional journalists through Northwestern's Medill High School Journalism Panels. It is always so amazing to talk to professionals about their field of study, their passion and excitement passes on to me every time.
Has it been hard learning virtually?
Oh, absolutely! It has been difficult for everyone but I would still say I am enjoying the class and learning through this bizarre time. I do hate not being in person and seeing everyone's faces but I have grown used to people's profile pictures on Google Meet. Plus the journalism panels we attended would have been a bit hard to get to if it weren't for them being virtual!
Wow, we need more positive attitudes like this! Now, are you going to tell us what your AP is?
I thought you'd never ask! For this action project, I am writing an article about a current event! I chose to write about why Covid-19 has shown us how terrible cruise ships are to marine ecology. I interviewed my teacher, Sharon, and former marine ecologists, Matthew Nicklin! I am very proud of this AP and I hope you like it!
