Good Luck.

You grimly look at the test results and let out a heavy sigh. You step into the room and there sits your patient anxious to hear your diagnosis...

Hello and welcome to the first AP (Action Project) for my Winter term STEAM class, Disease. In this class, the sophomores have talked about cancer, anatomy, body systems, and what disease are and why they happen. On the more math side, we have been reviewing algebra 2, basic algebraic concepts and one-, two, and multi-step equations. This class is as heavy as it is informative: for our AP we were to talk to a friend or family member who has either survived a disease or took care of someone who had one. It is straining to open the wounds that come from losing someone to their own body, but it is very important for teenagers to know about diseases and perhaps open up to the idea of going into the medical field to help others. I know this class will be hitting close to home, especially in our next unit, but I want to share the experience, good or bad, with others so they understand or at least learn something new.

My AP is, for the most part, based on a real patient I was close to. However, the doctor and their studies are fiction. I hope you enjoy reading the story of DR. S and her patient, Mr. Milos.
