Holy Pozole!
Hello, welcome to the last AP (action project) for my course Food for Thought and the last Humanities AP for this year! Time sure does fly by! In this class we are studying This class is a buddle of integrated humanities classes including, history, geography, and anthropology. The history of food and how it helped build civilizations, the geology of the origins and travels of food, and it all goes into anthropology! In this unit, titled Birth, we have studied the transformations of the human diet, monocultures, and how corporations and industries rule our diet. We have also read experts of Micheal Pollans 2008 book In Defence of Food and watched the documentary Food Inc by Robert Kenny where he guest stars. We had quite a few FE's for this unit; we went to a restaurant called Uncommon Grounds and talked to Brandon a farmer there about urban farming and sustainability. We also went to the restaurant S.K.Y. and talk to a sommelier (Charles) about tasting and how his senses influenced the wines sold at the restaurant. We also played a tasting game where we were blindfolded and given 5 candies to taste and identify without touching nor seeing them. BG, our teacher, and I tied and won a 5-pound bag of sour patch kids!
For this AP we were asked to taste two dishes, a homemade one and one that was store bought. We had to use at least three senses and 6 adjectives to describe our food in our amateur review. We were also asked to figure out of our dish (either one) was organic or had GMO's. We did this to test our senes and see how much influence corporations have on our food. I struggled a lot when thinking about adjectives that were both in a way negative and positive, as well as finding a store that sold pozole on Memorial Day since everyone was out and about which made it hard to have this AP on time. I think that overall everything worked well in my AP, I got a lot of photographs, details, and adjectives.
I hope you enjoy my review of 2 pozole dishes!
