I Grow My Art
Hello, and Welcome to the first AP (action Project) for my STEAM class Food! In this class, we will be studying the past, present, and future or food as well as breaking it down into its chemical form. In this unit (Planting), we have studied the book One Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka, an excerpt from Micheal Pollan's Botany of Desire, and excerpts from Charles Darwin's book Struggle for Existence. We have also studied ecosystems, the difference between biotic and abiotic, the nitrogen cycle, interactions between organisms, symbiosis, the differences between terms like pohtosynthesis and phototropism and chloroplast and chlorophyll. And more on math terms we learned how to calculate the area and volume of 2D and 3D shapes.
In this AP we were inspired by Ron Finley and Masanobu Fukuoka to begin a garden, through this AP you will see my thought process in creating a plan for my garden. Enjoy!
To conclude, I have learned a lot in completing this AP. I learned a lot more about ecosystems and the different interactions organisms can have, as well as calculating different volumes. I also learned a lot about nature reading through the excerpt in this unit, it was intriguing to not stay on the straight and narrow of math and science and take a more artistic and philosophical road for a bit. If I were to do this AP again I think I would make my time better and maybe hand drawn my garden!
