The Hack to the Plaque!
Hello and welcome to the finale of our unit 2.5 dimensions from our class, Rapid Prototyping! This unit is a bridge between the first and third unit of this class, 2D and 3D respectively, as we worked with a CNC machine that works in 2.5 dimensions called the Carvey. Allow me to explain: on a graph you are probably used to seeing X and Y variables but did you know about Z? Z is the depth or rise of something on a graph, but being able to go all around something with a CNC machine would make it 3D. The Carvey can only move side to side and down, it can't rotate 360 degrees so it's 2.5 dimensions. Besides learning about graphing with a third dimension, we learned how to convert inches to centimeters and centimeters to millimeters, accuracy, precision, volume, density, mass, and the formulas to find them. This Action Project wants us to see the differences between using machines and doing things by hand to see where one method is strong and where it is weaker. I am most proud of being able to at least somewhat make raised cursive lettering on my handmade plaque as my teacher told me it was near impossible!
